This image shows the way that the Trench Maps maps,
In 10,000 scale have been registered together to form
a coherent view of the Western Front for the first time. It is
possible from this view, to zoom right in, to a view of each trench,

I have undertaken to put the pc to a new use, that

of historical mapping of the Great War.

The trenchmaps, a permanent record of a conflict, brought

together for the first time using new and innovative technology.

Never before has it been possible to view all these maps together.

You would need a hanger the size of the  Cardington Airship

sheds to lay the original maps out, and then it would be

necessary  to dangle yourself above them, and still they would

be difficult to see. That is also assuming that it would be possible,

to  persuade any owner of these precious relics, that one could

mistreat them in  such a way. The computer opens an entirely

new avenue for research and viewing. For the first time we

can see the ‘actual mapping’, not someone else’s interpretation,

or battle analysis, perhaps slewed to the perspective of the drawer.

We can now check the history books with the original maps, as

drawn by the men who undertook to scientifically map these

battlefields, with the express intention of assisting in saving the

lives of the men on the ground.
