The Alpine Rally

The Coupe des Alpes (Alpine Rally) was undoubtedly the most picturesque of all the international rallies. Starting in the rivierra resort of Marseille, the three day event wound its way through the most beautiful parts of the French and Italian Alpes.

I've got that jack too!

The Alpine Rally, the best Rally of all.

1963 Alpine Rally Route

1963 Alpine Rally Plate

Many hours of mountain driving, interspersed with long, fast special stages, sometimes downhill, put many of the modern events to shame. The Coupe D'Or (Gold Cup) was the prize, for three consecutive penalty free Alpines.

These were won by Maurice Gastonides, and Stirling Moss. Paddy Hopkirk won a Coupe D' Argent (Silver Cup) for three non consecutive runs, in my car EBL 56C in 1965.
